We want to shine a light on the amazing individuals who make ECNV a special place to work. Today, let's get to know Salifu "Sal" Kamara.
How long have you worked at ECNV? One year eight months
Who is the one person you admire the most and why? My mom but she is late now. Why? Because she was so faithful and loving to carry me for 9 months in her belly without aborting my pregnancy living under severe poverty and polygamous home. Unfortunately, she died at the height of the war in my country, it’s now a post-war country, and I have not been able to return to my village to see her grave where she was buried and just to kiss the grave and show her that my love for her will forever continue to be alive. This includes all my eight siblings from my mom’s side whom I lost. Seeing their graves will absolutely give me peace someday!
Tell me something you are passionate about. I am passionate about Creating a World fit for all persons with disabilities including orphans who have lost their parents or loved ones.
What’s your favorite food? Cassava Leaves-this is very popular in my country of Sierra Leone
What is your favorite movie? Black Panther
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who it be and what would you talk about? I would be glad to have a dinner with President Biden and politely ask to do more to end the war in Gaza because persons of disabilities and children including the old are highly vulnerable during violent conflict and the war in Gaza thus represents those untold stories of their voices.
What is the most adventurous thing you have done? To leave my country and settle in a foreign country where I have no family or any blood connections. This was a huge and risky decision, but I took it anyway because I had to.

¿Quién es la persona que más admiras y por qué? Mi mamá pero ya llega tarde. ¿Por qué? Porque ella fue tan fiel y amorosa al llevarme durante 9 meses en su vientre sin abortar mi embarazo viviendo bajo extrema pobreza y hogar polígamo. Desafortunadamente, ella murió en el punto álgido de la guerra en mi país, ahora es un país de posguerra, y no he podido regresar a mi pueblo para ver su tumba donde fue enterrada y simplemente besar la tumba y mostrarle que mi amor por ella seguirá vivo por siempre. Esto incluye a mis ocho hermanos por parte de mi madre, a quienes perdí. ¡Ver sus tumbas me dará paz algún día!
Cuéntame algo que te apasione. Me apasiona crear un mundo apropiado para todas las personas con discapacidad, incluidos los huérfanos que han perdido a sus padres o seres queridos.

¿Cuál es tu película favorita? Pantera negra
Si pudieras cenar con algún personaje histórico, ¿quién sería y de qué hablarías? Me encantaría tener una cena con el presidente Biden y pedirle cortésmente que se haga más para poner fin a la guerra en Gaza porque las personas con discapacidad y los niños, incluidos los ancianos, son muy vulnerables durante los conflictos violentos y, por lo tanto, la guerra en Gaza representa esas historias no contadas de sus voces.
¿Qué es lo más aventurero que has hecho? Salir de mi país e instalarme en un país extranjero donde no tengo familia ni vínculos consanguíneos. Esta fue una decisión enorme y arriesgada, pero la tomé de todos modos porque tenía que hacerlo.
