The VA Department of Education Seeking Public Comments

The Virginia Department of Education is seeking public comment on its application for a waiver of the one percent cap for students participating in the alternate assessment (The Virginia Alternate Assessment Program or VAAP).

The Every Child Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires states to ensure that the number of students assessed in each subject using the Alternate Assessment standards does not exceed one percent of all students in the state who can be assessed. However, they allow states to request a waiver of that cap.

Public comment on Virginia’s Draft Request for a Waiver for the School Year 2024-2025 is now open. Any individual or organization may submit written comments on the proposed waiver, pursuant to 34 C.F.R. §200.6(c)(4). Written comments must be submitted to Accountability@doe.virginia.gov by November 25, 2024.

GAO Survey on Disabilities and Health Care

U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) survey to obtain the lived experiences of people with disabilities regarding the barriers faced trying to access healthcare is open until November 30, 2024. Caretakers can also answer the survey on behalf of the person they care for.
